Overview

Why Norway.

Norway is one of the few countries where public universities charge no tuition for many programmes — even as it leads the world in renewables, marine science, and energy. Add fjord-side campuses, a one-year job-search permit, and one of the highest standards of living anywhere.

Ask the expert

Low or no public tuition

Public universities charge no tuition for EU/EEA students and modest fees for others — you pay only a small semester fee.

Energy & marine science

World-leading in renewables, petroleum engineering, and marine and Arctic research — studied where the industry lives.

English master's

Many master's programmes are taught in English at NTNU, Oslo, and Bergen — no Norwegian needed to start.

Highest quality of life

Norway consistently tops human-development and happiness rankings — safe, clean, and spectacularly scenic.

Outdoor culture

Fjords, mountains, and the northern lights on your doorstep — 'friluftsliv', the love of the outdoors, is a way of life.

Cost of studying

What it really
costs.

EU students study free; non-EU tuition was introduced in 2023 but stays modest, with a very high living standard. Use this as a planning guide.

Cost of living

Norway is expensive day-to-day, but subsidised student housing (SiO and similar), no tuition for EU students, and very high part-time wages balance the equation. Cook at home, use student housing, and the numbers work.
